How to remove a faucet

When removing the faucet from a sink you will first need to look at the faucet hole pattern. Check the hole pattern by looking under the sink.

Faucet shanks will be measured from center to center. Standard measurements are four inch, eight inch or ten inch.

Be sure to shut off the water supply at the angle stops under the sink before beginning work on your faucet. Close the stops by using pliers; gently turn in a clockwise direction until the water is off. You may also shut the water off from the main water valve outside of your home if you so choose. The angle stops and new faucet’s flex lines should be installed now. Be aware that sometimes, valves may be frozen.

Use 12-inch adjustable pliers to remove the old pop-up sink drain. Be sure to place a shallow pan under the sink to catch the water from the sink drain and P trap.

You want to wear safety glasses and use a lantern type flashlight for effective and safe removal of your faucet.

You will now need to remove old supply line nuts and flex lines using an adjustable 8-inch wrench.

To remove the lock nuts, which attach the faucet to the sink, use a 10-inch or adjustable basin wrench.

Take the old faucet out and remove any left over putty.
