How to service a cartridge faucet

Be sure to turn off the water supply and open the faucet handle to relieve the water pressure.

You will then need to remove the handle, which will likely be held by a hex screw, and remove any trim.

You should now unscrew the retainer nut, either by hand or with pliers, and take if off the faucet.

Next, remove the retainer clip, if there is one. The retainer clip holds the cartridge in the faucet body.

Now remove the cartridge stem and life from the faucet body.

If you find that the cartridge is damaged, or has too much wear, replace it. You may need to replace the O-rings as well.

Finally, reassemble the fixture and test the faucet.
